The Mollie Dive Girls enjoyed a successful year that took them to the Grand Final.
Unfortunately the team lost to Newcastle twice during the season … the second of which being Grand Final day.
Newcastle were worthy winners of the Mollie Dive trophy for season 21/22.
The constant threat of bad weather, Covid and injury kept coaches and management on their toes over the season but despite the challenges the girls put in a tremendous display of skill and sportsmanship that was a credit to the MWJCA.
A strong start to the season in round 1 against Central Coast led to a reality check the following week against Newcastle. Strong wins followed against Blacktown and North Shore Maroon but it as the weeks progressed it became clear that to win the title Newcastle were the team to beat. Unfortunately the weather became a factor from that point with rounds 5 and 6 washed out.
The squad had deserved a place in the semi-finals regardless and went on to defeat North Shore Blue to earn a place in the Grand Final. As it was in Round 2 the Newcastle team proved too good on the day and deservedly took the title despite the brave efforts of our girls.
Well done to all involved in the group over the course of the season with special mention to David Punter, Alan Handley and Ross Denny as coaches who guided the individual players to a higher level and more broadly instilled a strong sense of sportsmanship and community into the group.
Good Luck to those girls moving to higher age groups for the 22/23 season!
